How Google Created Their Name
10.28.07 (2:04 pm)   [edit]
GoogleStanford student Sean Anderson was the guy who gave Larry Page the name of his search engine and company. This happened when they were in their offices, trying to think of a good name related to indexing an immense amount of data. Sean suggested the word "googoplex". Larry followed with a shorter form "googol". Sean being a bad speller made the mistake of searching for google.com which they decided to keep.

The Global Motor Industry
10.21.07 (4:45 am)   [edit]

global motor industryClick the picture to enlarge it.

Some people will look at this picture and think the motor companies are monopoly men. But, its more complex than that.

This picture shows the deals, share holdings, joint ventures, joint acquisitions, and stuff like that.

To me it looks like Ford and BMW are in the best position sharing the most engine technology with half the motor companies in this picture.

Should Our Kids Be Finger-Printed for Their Lunch?
10.21.07 (1:26 am)   [edit]

fingerprinting children

This isn't the local juvenile justice center, this is a picture of a 1st grader in Pennsylvania getting fingerprinted before he's allowed to eat his food. You can read the full Time.Com article here.

Obviously this doesn't seem right and parents are complaining about it. Some of the main concerns are privacy issues, and identity theft . There's no point 1st graders need to be tracked like criminals. All this system is doing is recording more and more personal information and making it vulnerable by storing it in a database thats usually connected to the web.

SSH Connection
10.18.07 (1:37 pm)   [edit]

Here's a simple video tutorial on how to log onto a remote host using SSH secure shell to login. It's kind of funny how he makes no attempt to hide the ip address hes logging into ( It's a school's hostname! ) and he leaves his password and username visible. I guess he felt like it doesn't matter because he's not doing anything illegal, but to a well trained eye its obvious thats a remote connection ( because of the lag ) which means most likely hes not supposed to be logging into that pc.

How to deploy UltraVNC with encryption and Windows authentication
10.18.07 (1:35 am)   [edit]

VNC Security

This guy shows us how to use UltraVNC to make a highly secure VNC connection. Even though we are using Microsoft Authentication ( MS Login ) we'll still need a VNC password because the way the server is written it still requires a regular password or it won't start. It doesn't matter what password you use because no one can get into your system with that password, just something has to be there.

This video on a news report from channel 5 news gives an interesting perspective on pin numbers, passwords, ID fraud, and the human psychy.

It's a proven fact people keep passwords longer than they do telephone numbers. Most people use their dogs name or birthdate. Survey's also show people usually have only 2 passwords and/or pin numbers.

The funny part of this picture is that Bush's main advisor Dick Cheney isn't in the emails. This is probably because it's widely known Dick Cheney never writes anything down or emails. All his plans and projects are from mouth to ear, in person, face-to-face.
