Hunting Technology
11.30.08 (6:32 pm)   [edit]

Man-kind has come along way in the development of hunting technology. Not long ago we were hunting with bows, arrows, and spears. Now hunter's carry equipment that can take game a mile away without much difficulty. One of the most important tools to carry when doing long-distance shooting is a rifle-scope and a rangefinder. Rangefinders are used to easily find game, grazing areas, watering holes, and make long-distance shots. The rangefinder is usually handled by a spotter which helps point out games and give the shooter information such as the distance and angle.

Check out Nikon BDC Slam Hunter's Package, it includes everything the modern hunter needs to make long-distance shots. The technology available today is really astounding If you think about it. The ability to shoot a target 1,000 yards or more away is something our fore father's would of been extremely proud of.

Search Engine Market Share
11.30.08 (6:12 pm)   [edit]

Search engine market share

Neilson Online just released it's monthly domestic search engine rankings and the results are surprising. Google continues to grab large portions of the market share away from major players like MSN, Yahoo, and Ask.com year after year. Out of all the searches performed in the US Google received 61.2% of all of them while Yahoo received 16.9% of them and MSN received 11.4%. Aol and Ask.com received less than 7% of all total searches. Another interesting statistic is that 7.8 billion searches were performed last month, down 2% from the same time last year. You would think that as more and more devices get sold that can connect to the net that there would be an increase, but there is no increase.

What is the .flac file extension for?
11.30.08 (6:08 am)   [edit]

FLAC audio codec The file extension flac is a file format for compressed music, much like the .mp3 format. The .flac file format can only be used by those who have installed the Free Lossless Audio Codec. Flac format is superior to mp3 format because their's no loss of quality and has a much better compression ratio. It's also easier for your PC to process than the mp3 file format.

Free lossless audio codec is free, no purchase is necessary, and it can be used by the public for any use they desire. It's encoding and decoding methods are not patented which will allow third parties to add-on to or upgrade the software without getting in legal trouble. FLAC is also open source, which means anyone can view and edit the source code.

The .flac decode algorithm is unique in that it uses integer arithmetic. By using integer arithmetic it makes it incredibly easy for CPUs to process .flac file and immediately decode it without too much strain on your PC. Almost all hardware, no matter how old, can easily decode the audio from a FLAC file in real-time. Since this file format is so advanced, it's likely it will replace the mp3 file format as more and more people catch on to it.

How Night Vision Works
11.26.08 (10:26 pm)   [edit]

Night vision rifle scope Night vision utilizes two different techniques to produce clear images in the pitch black.

The first technique is image enhancement. Image enhancement works by collecting as much light as possible, even the tiniest amounts of light that are even in the lower light spectrum that is invisible to the human eye. The night vision device then takes the light and amplifies it to the point that you can clearly see the image.

The second technique night vision devices use is called thermal imaging. Thermal imaging works by using the upper portions of the infrared light spectrum which is produced by the heat that emits from an object. Hot objects, such as us, emit lots heat while other objects, like trees and building, emit hardly none.

How to Jailbreak version 2.2 firmware for iPhone
11.25.08 (11:06 pm)   [edit]

Jailbreaking your iPhone will give you access to applications that can't be bought through the iTunes App store. By jailbreaking your iPhone you can install these applications using Cydia and Installer, which comes with jailbroken phones. One of the most popular applications installed on jailbroken iPhones is PDANet. PDANet is a application that allows you to turn your iPhone into a wireless router that you can use your PC to connect to so that you can access the internet. Another popular application is OpenSSH. OpenSSH is a SSH client that allows you to access a SSH server remotely. This application is ecspecially important for webmasters who like to have access to their server at all times.

How Radar Guns Work
11.25.08 (3:53 pm)   [edit]

How radar guns workRadar guns work by sending radio waves of a specific frequency. The radio waves then bounce off of the vehicle or object then return to the receiver called the receiving station. To measure how fast the vehicle is moving the radar gun uses a calculation created by the scientific theory called the 'doppler effect'. When the radio wave returns the frequency shifts, this shift can be calculated and used to determine how fast an object is moving. So in fact radar guns measure the speed your vehicles going by measuring the original frequency to the new reflected frequency. Radio waves can be in the form of heat, light, or noise. So the next time you get a ticket you can thank Christian Doppler for being genius enough to invent the 'doppler effect' and create a mathmatical formula that can be used to compute the effect.

To help understand how radio waves can be calculated I'll give you this example; If a fire truck is coming down the street with his siren blasting then the radio wave frequency of the siren will increase the closer it gets and when it passes you the frequency will begin to decrease the further it gets. When the fire truck passes you the frequency of the siren will be the same as the frequency received by you.

If your interested in purchasing a radar gun then please purchase it from an American company. This kind of technology can be used for military purposes and we wouldn't want to help fund some foreign countries research into it. A good website run by an American company for Sports and Traffic Radar Guns is www.radargunsales.com. Also, you'll notice every product you view on their website states it comes with a warranty.

Problems with iPhone 2.2 Update
11.24.08 (8:29 pm)   [edit]

Apple's iPhone The new iPhone 2.2 update, released november 21st 2008, has been causing users a lot of headaches. People are complaining about a weak or no signal, missing applications, failed installations, and Wi-Fi problems. Seems that Apple released this update a bit too soon, there should be an emergency update that follows this one soon.

If your getting a weak signal or no signal on your iPhone after the update then theirs a few things you can try to fix that. In iPhone OS 2.2 turning off location services will help boost your signal. You can also try the other traditional iPhone signal boosting tricks. The most reliable way to get a reading on your signal strength is by going into the field test mode. You get into filed test mode by entering *3001#12345#*, then pressing call. Then go to iPhone's dB reader. A reading under 50dB typically means you have a good signal.

Some users are even reporting that their programs such as Safari and their camera software are missing. This is unusual because software that ships with the iPhone isn't suppose to be able to be uninstalled or removed. I'f your experiencing this issue please contact me by using the commnet box below, share your experience with us and I'll try to help you.

A lot of iPhones that installed the new 2.2 update are now stuck in recovery-mode because their installations failed. You can tell your in recovery mode because you'll see the USB image pointing towards iTunes. Apple is aware of this problem and recently release a help article for those with failed installations that are unable to restore, and their article on how to backup, update, and restore the iPhone might be useful to you.

Another major problem with the update is that many people are experiencing problems with their Wi-Fi. To fix this problem try turning off Wi-Fi then "forget" the currently configured settings and allow it to reconfigure itself. You can also try switching the router to WPA2 encryption, removing all the spaces in the password, and removing all the security settings from the router. You you restore your router to it's default settings by using a paperclip to press and hold the reset button on the back of your router.

Error Codes
11.21.08 (11:15 pm)   [edit]

Determining what caused an error isn't as hard as you think it might be. There's a lot of information online about every single error you could possibly ever get. You just have to know where to look. A lot information about error codes can be found in Microsoft's Developer Network's huge database on information for programmers, but that may not be such an easy task for most of us. So the next best thing to do is to let the search engines find the exact information you need about that error code. When determining what caused an error it's important that you record as much information about it as possible. For example If you just received a error 14079 named, ERROR_SXS_MISSING_ASSEMBL Y_IDENTITY_ATTRIBUTE. You would record all the information about it, go to Yahoo, and put the name of the error code in quotes then hit enter. The first result may be a page from the Microsoft Developer Network which is a part 2 of a list of all possible error codes. This list was able to tell us more about the error code. It's called a side by side error code and it said that "The supplied assembly identity has one or more attribute names that contain characters not permitted in XML names." So now we know we have a XML filename with illegal characters, which is a result of bad programming, or from a user renaming the XML file. A lot of times you can just go to a site like www.pc-library.com which will scan your PC for different issues that might of caused the error. Theirs a lot of scans involved that just generally look for anything wrong, so it will take awhile, but in the end everything will most likely be resolved. Some of us though, don't like to be conventional, and like to spend all day determining what's wrong on our own. If that's the kind of thing you like to do then go for it.

Live Piracy World Map
11.21.08 (10:47 pm)   [edit]
PiracyAs we focus on so called 'piracy' by locking up hundreds of thousands of fathers, mothers, and children that download illegal copies of music, software, and movies, real piracy is taking over the world. Yes, piracy on the high seas still exists to this day, yet little focus is given to it. Every week theirs reports of piracy added to the live piracy map. Yep, while we lock up some of our most valuable citizens that are so called pirates, real pirates are stealing cargo such as chemicals and oil. Yet, you only hear about the mothers and father's caught downloading their favorite music on the news. I'd like to see this change, as a nation we should refocus our efforts on the real pirates. Take the funding away from those monitoring us for downloading backup copies and allocate that money to the real pirates.

Stem Cell Technology
11.18.08 (10:59 pm)   [edit]

BiologistStem cell research is an exciting new field of study that try's to understand how a healthy cell can replace a damaged or dead cell in the body. This research has caused breakthrough's in cell based therapies that are created to fight against illness and disease. Today, stem cell research is the biggest research field of study for biologists. Already, there are cell based therapies that can cure diseases such as leukemia and diabetes. The hard part of course though is how to get the stem cells to perform these cell therapies. This is where a company steps in to fill this void, in a legal, ethical way. When your child is born the umbilical cord is usually disposed of. The umbilical cord is filled with stem cells that can grow new cells throughout the body. Instead of disposing the umbilical cord, you can give it to a blood bank that will store those stem cells in case your baby or a family member becomes ill and needs cell therapy. The companies called Cryo-Cell and I believe their the first of their kind to be a success. Besides storing stem cells, they are also pioneering their way to cutting edge cell based therapy that's the first of its kind. Soon, with their help, we may one day be able to cure every illness and every disease. View their Gift Page if you want to give the gift of stem cell preservation.

Benefits of having a W3C validated website
11.15.08 (10:15 pm)   [edit]

Word wide web consortiaW3C is a consortia created by companies with technology that has to do with the world-wide web. Their member list includes people like Sun Microsystems, which created Java, and Java is used to make web applets for millions of websites. Being W3C compliant means that your website's code is designed to meet the industries standards. It means your code is 100% written correctly. Now of days web browsers are versatile enough that they can load a web page that wasn't even coded 100% correctly. As an example you don't have to create paragraph tags to display text.

There are key benefits you gain when making sure your website is W3C validated. One benefit is compatability. If you can pass validation then you don't have to worry that a browser may display your webpage wrong. The second benefit is spiderability. Search engines have a easier time spidering and cacheing your website If your W3C validated. This is ecspecially important for making sure that the search engines can properly read your pages, making them visible in their search results. The third benefit is accessability. Those who may have vision problems, bad motor skills, or other impairments can use tools to better view your website. For example ALT tags are important to use when your describing pictures or links. My favorite benefit though is faster loading time. When your website is coded correctly it loads much faster. Web designers who use programs like Frontpage and Dreamweaver might never know how those programs stick in a bunch of code you don't need, which slows down their pages load time. You'd be surprised how many people use dialup or so called "light broadband", which isn't much better, to view websites. Everyone in my family is on that light stuff, and when you surf websites that have bad coding it feels like your on dialup. The load time with some websites is horrible. So validate your site If you care about every single one of your visitors.

What to Look for in a Great Web Host
11.10.08 (8:27 pm)   [edit]

Web hosting serversThere's literally thousands of website hosting services available. A simple thing like choosing a web host is really a big deal. Not all providers are equal, some offer more than others.

The first thing you should look for when choosing a great web host is what platform they run on. Do you know which operating system you want your server to run? You have two choices, Windows or Linux. To determine this you must know what kind of applications your servers going to need to host your website correctly. If your using Microsoft software and technology like ASP, or VB then you'll want your server's operating system to be Windows.

The second most important thing to look at is the features. Features include things like free server backups, money back gurantees, bandwith, disk space, databases, and email accounts. You want the most bandwith and disk space you can get, along with free automatic or manual backups. It also doesn't hurt when they offer a good money back gurantee. Your going to probably also want an email account, or serveral, so check to see how many email accounts are included.

The third most important thing to look for when picking a great web host is the cost. This shouldn't be the only thing you consider, but it should be a selling point. If you can get the same features for less then why not give the cheaper service a try, If you don't like it then you can just backup your files and move them over to a new provider. A great place to quickly look at features prices and more is webhostingreviews.com; they'll provide all those details along with statistics like server uptime.

Full Warranty Audi Turbo
11.07.08 (4:38 am)   [edit]
turbochargers

Turbochargerpros.com, is a website that offers a full warranty on audi turbo chargers. I've been wanting to get one for my car once I get reinforced forged pistons. There's no better feeling than having a turbo under your hood. Not only does it make driving a lot more fun, it also improves fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and gives your engine a lot more horsepower and torgue. By adding hardly no weight to your car increase the power of your engine by over fifty percent. Turbochargers are also very reliable, aslong as you keep it supplied with clean oil. Most mechanics recommend that you use synthetic oil in turbocharged engines. Also, you need to idle your car for a minute or two after running it hard to let the turbocharger cool slow enough so that it won't crack.

Work Boots for Electrical Engineers
11.07.08 (4:03 am)   [edit]
Electricity

It's required by law that electrical engineers in industrial settings must ground. So when you work, you have to wear special work boots. The work boots must contain to OHM symbol to be approved. Grounding is a serious issue. By grounding your preventing sparks resulting from static electricity which could ignite low lying hydrocarbons that are in the area. That's why it's so important to wear the right work boots in industrial settings.

Only 4.13% of the web is W3C compliant.
11.07.08 (3:52 am)   [edit]

Opera The W3C is a consortia that tries to set web standards. Opera did a study, they ran the over 3.5 millions through W3C validator tool and found that only 4.13% of the pages were standards compliant. Even worse over 50% of the websites that claimed their W3C compliant were not.

Opera also ran other studies and come up with some startling numbers: see the results here.

Power Steering
11.05.08 (8:30 pm)   [edit]

A friend of mine recently totaled their card because the power steering went our before they made a turn. Have you ever tryed to drive a car without power steering? It's nearly impossible. If your power steering would go out you might not even notice until you make your next turn. Hopefully, that turn won't be the last turn that car ever makes again, and you can order a genuine high quality power steering rack for it through the 'Power Steering Pros'.
