Russians Are Using Cyber Attacks on Georgia
08.22.08 (7:33 pm)   [edit]

botsShadowserver, a foundation that tracks malicious internet activity, announced that Russians were using bots to DDOS attack Georgia's president, Mikheil Saakashvili, website. The website has been down since mid-july. At one point the hackers even defaced the website inserting a large picture with many smaller pictures of Adolf Hitler and Mikheil Saakashvili side by side doing the same poses.

Georgian banks also suffered from DDOS attacks from Russians. Whether their attacks from vigilantes or direct orders from the Russian government is hard to tell. There's still no direct evidence because the nature of some of these attacks is hard to trace. The Shadowserver foundation believes both of these DDOS attacks were done with bots with the MachBot script which is a type of bot mainly used by Russian bot herders. You can read more about the cyber-attacks going on during the Russian-Georgian war here.
